Black Friday is almost upon us kiddies. Any big deals on your minds? I’m all about the electronics this year. Probably not going to buy anything, but it really is fascinating to see last year’s $2000 TV going for $300 this year. The new model at $2500 has like an extra button or something.

My real interest is with storage media. Last year I bought a 1TB external drive. It cost the same as a 500 GB portable model which was, I must admit, exceptionally portable. But seeing as how my big clunky non-portable drive was still smaller than the walkman cassette player I used in High School… yeah, I’ll take big in this case. The extra storage is sooooo worth it.

I do see alot of people interested in software. Dashboard product for one. But me, like the non-development masses, it’s plug and play all the way.

T4T

Our favorite comic shop is going to be doing a Toys for Tots toy drive again this year. Last year they did a great job, and their T4T day was full of new toys, door prizes, games and… Marines. Seriously, I have pictures of the kids with Marines. It was awesome. This year, in addition to bringing in some toys, we’ll be contributing a Skateboard Heroes prize package to the festivities. Lucky winners will get a t-shirt, stickers, and a signed copy of Issue #0. Rock on! It may not be that gift basket for Mom you were hoping would save you from holiday shopping this year, but still… free stuff rules, right. Especially when you’re talking good cause. Very good cause. And hey, maybe your Mom is more about comics and skateboarding than berries and scented treats. It could happen, right?

Hero Schwag

Things have been quiet on the Skateboard Heroes front for a while, but rest assured, the new stories are in progress and under way. In the meantime, have I recently plugged all of our great merchandise? We have stickers, a rainbow assortment of t-shirts, and actual books you can read. We haven’t gone so far as personalized coins or anything yet, but I know some people and can get stuff signed. Just saying. The creators have some pretty unique signatures. Fun for the whole family. You should check it out at www.skateboardheroes.com.

Speaking of the ‘E’

By the way, have you ever done an elliptical? Holy poop! That’s some serious work. But I’ll tell you something, you keep at it and it almost gets easy. Seriously. Not like I’m all Green Beret fight club super dude or anything. I’m holding off on the military surplus underwear and Luminox navy seal watches and Hummers. At least for now. But who knows what tomorrow will bring. Who knows indeed.

All of a sudden I have a Chicago song in my head. Or was it Peter Cetera solo?

“I am a man who will fight for your honor…”

The ‘E’ Word

What’s the ‘E’ work you ask? I suppose it could be Elliptical, since that is my instrument of destruction. But no, alas, the word is Exercise. Yup, and I’m on the big ‘E’ wagon. And, yeah, that’s a capital ‘E’ friends.

Let’s face it, I’m getting old, and my health is pretty much crappy. Sure, I’ve got a few extra pounds on me, but I’ve been to Walmart, so… well yeah. You’d think I’d be doing alright. But 35 minutes on the elliptical every day is my new prescription.

And if this doesn’t work? I heard they’ve got weight loss shots, available nationwide. HCG shots Austin, Duluth, South Bend, Yonkers… you get the picture.

More NYCC

In addition to some sweet Dr. Inferno sketches, we got a few other treats at Comic Con. For my geek readers, forgive the explanation, but for everyone else – DC Comics is going through this whole 52 new titles thing. They have rebooted all of their titles. So books like Action Comics and Superman and various Batman titles are all starting over at number 1. Considering many of these titles were in the 700s and 800s (do the math – 12 per year) it is a major renumbering… if nothing else.

Anyway, I got a sketch of Wonder Woman from Cliff Chiang, the artist who is working on the rebooted Wonder Woman book in the DC 52. I also got an incredible Super Girl from Dustin Nguyen, who is not, to my knowledge, working on Supergirl. But if Supergirl was a cute little adolescent girl… I mean, really, this sketch is incredible. And lest you think think DN is weird or something, he asked how old our little girl is, so he was drawing something with a very specific target age in mind.

We’re talking way better than something you put on t-shirts or cute baby rompers. This is legit wall art, no question. Not that you, or your very stylish baby, couldn’t wear this level of art. The penciling ois just so delicate and lovely. We’d need some inking and color I think. I mean, at least to make something a baby could wear to dinner.

Dreams of Eddie Mars

New York Comic Con was pretty awesome. I have heard mixed reviews from a number of people with different agendas, but for me… awesome. I got tons of stuff signed. I got a bunch of new sketches, mostly of Dr. Inferno, so check the Skateboard Heroes site frequently in coming days for a major upload of art by Friends of the Heroes.

Lots of costumes at NYCC this year. They call it cosplay nowadays. I’m not sure why, but everything needs a name, so cosplay it is. The thing is, for every hot, halter wearing Supergirl that really pulled off the look, there were at least three midriff-bearing ladies who, well, shouldn’t be bearing ANYTHING. I mean, if my bare belly looks better than yours, ladies, I think you need a friend to have a little talk to you.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of dudes with camera phones ready to post your chubby middie to Facebook, so… kudos? To me, we’re not talking prints to double as christmas gifts for grampa, but I don’t know. Society is so screwy now, maybe 15 minutes of embarrassment is the new 15 minutes of fame.

Deals

Maybe this is no surprise, but have you noticed how expensive junk has gotten? Seriously, prices are skyrocketing on, well, everything. Supersize you fast food value meal and you’re looking at almost ten bucks. Where is the value in this ersatz meal?

I get a lot of spam from supposed coupon sites and while I love the idea, the deals… not so much. Once in a while though, a targeted couponing site or deals site actually rises up. There are a few really good holiday deal sites that target a particular theme. The focus works for me. Costume express coupons right in time for Halloween? Now that’s what I’m talking about.

New Doc City

I started going to the doctor for real about 2 years ago. Then my doctor, who I had a total guy crush on, moved to another practice a couple hours away. So I kind of stopped going to the doctor for a year or so. But now I’m back. I’ve got a new doctor and a new committment to actually go see him periodically.

I am a big fan of his receptionist, and not just because she has a comic book name. She is friendly, helpful, and willing to talk insurance nonsense. One thing that is always a problem is getting tests done. Different insurance companies work with different labs and if the office sends your junk to the wrong lab you can get billed pretty heavy… and it’s not even your fault. Every company has its own codes and methods and schedules of what they accept/pay/decline… Coding educator jobs are in a growth segment these days.. Yay America, health care is fantabulous in this great nation.

The cool thing about this office is that they send material to a nearby hospital where it gets catalogued and sorted and sent to the right lab based on insurance. Or at least that is what I have been led to believe. I’ll let you know how it all goes with my blood work.

Fingers crossed.

Set them free! Part 4

Alright, this whole tassel thing has gone on long enough. Let me end it here. and let me end it on an up note, because after a lot of thought, topless after 8 is probably not such a great idea. In a fantasy world is sounds pretty good, because you can control a fantasy. Or rather, in a fantasy you can control who takes their shirt off. In real life… not so much.

Let’s drop the whole idea.

But here’s an idea… what about equestrian helmets? Wait, wait, wait. Don’t knock it yet. Let’s just think about it for a…

You know what, let’s not. It’s a dumb idea. Let’s go back to tube tops and pajama pants on chunkies and keep the boobies on Cinemax.
