Are you tee-sing?

If you are fans of Skateboard Heroes, you know that along with printed copies of the super-sized Issue 0 we also have t-shirts available. I was at a comic shop just the other day and someone said “hey, those are funny shirts.” Honestly, I didn’t get the comment. He was not a reader (or should I say not yet) and I don’t think he understood what it was about.

Is the logo funny? Many ironically so in that it is somewhat stiff and serious. But, that would really only be funny to a fan, right?

Did he find my stick figure skaters funny? I mean, they’re stick figures, but are stick figures inherently humorous? I think not. Maybe if there was a skateboarding stick figure saying something like “M.r Speedy’s got nothing on me!”

Head Gear

Working on the next Skateboard Heroes story I had to go BMX. Yup, kids on old school dirt bikes, raising hell. It just makes sense, right? Kids on skateboards versus kids on bikes. Could I really have gone in any other direction?

Thing is, I was having a hard time getting good helmets. I wanted old school dirt bike helmets for the photography and modeling, but man, those things are expensive. I mean, I wanted something that looked good, but high end gear like shoei motorcycle helmets was a little priced out of my league.

Mad about Ernie

Did you ever hear of Ernie Kovacs? He is one of those classic comedians who was just off the charts funny. He did groundbreaking television work, he was an early contributor to Mad Magazine, when it was the absolute king of American satire. He was known for playing all sorts of crazy characters, always shilling Dutch Master cigars. He made the music of Esquivel cool 30-plus years before hipsters in the 90s got into space age bachelor pad groovy lounge music. He died young, but his influence is so crucial to what we find funny today. Look him up, kids. Kovacs with a K.

Infernal Inferno!

And what makes Skateboard Heroes so cool? Well, lots of things. But one of those things is Dr. Inferno, the world’s most diabolical super villain. He’s got spikes on his head and a microchip in his forehead and a claw for a hand. Super awesome, right?

What’s really cool is that his claw has all kinds of attachments. He has a crossbow, a circular saw blade, and he’s working on some sort of sawed off bazooka. What else can he do? Well…chainsaw, yeah. Has to be a chainsaw. But what about pizza cutter or paint roller, maybe something for the beach: metal detectors gold and all. That’s one way for a super villain to spend the weekend, right? Searching for booty in the morning sun, walking barefoot on the sand.

Sheesh, this is starting to sound like his Match.com profile.

Blaster’s Dream

The new animated piece for Skateboard Heroes is up on YouTube. And for those of you paying attention, that’s authentic Drew music in the background. Sure it’s instrumental, but it’s pretty darn fine instrumental, don’t you think?

Check out the movie on YouTube.

Thanks!

More to come skaters…

As all the Skateboard Heroes readers out there know, we have finally seen the last part of the second chapter of the first ever Skateboard Heroes story. That’s the bad news. The good news is that we are planning a short print run of this first story to include some as yet unpublished extras. And that’s just the beginning.

Before you know it, kids, you’ll be seeing the Skateboard Heroes at all the big conventions. Mark my words. Looks like we need to go shopping for trade show accessories. Like fabric banners and…yeah, stuff like that.

In the meantime…just check out the comic.

Another Fantastic Artist!

We’ve had a lot of recent luck meeting very cool artists lately. Between NY Comic Con, Albany Comic Con and the in-store events at our favorite shops Alterniverse and Alterniverse 2, we’ve had a ball. Lots of comics signed, sketches made. Great stuff. We now have 3 solid Dr. Inferno sketches. Check out www.SkateboardHeroes.com where I plan to start posting them in the near future.

Today was a special treat. You know that card game Magic: The Gathering? I don’t actually play, though I’m a little interested. I’m waiting for my oldest to be just a little older so maybe I can get in on it with him. Maybe some of his friends will dig it. I mean, I used to LOVE Dungeons and Dragons. It’s kind of a similar thing. and if you’re thinking “I can sell me some acne remedies BIG TIME” then you’re kind of a douche. Not wholly inaccurate, but definitely kind of a douche.

Anyway, one of the artists who creates artwork for the cards in the game is the very talented Eric Deschamps. And guess what…he’s a great guy. My oldest and a friend has a ball talking with him, and even the baby was good. She barely fussed. I think she kind of liked the painting of the cat and the lizard…I got her to say ‘meow!’ a bunch of times.

The coolest part was that Eric Deschamps did a sketch of our favorite Skateboard Heroes villain, and sort-of-official most dangerous person on the planet, Dr. Inferno. It is a real treat because his style is so unique. While we love every Dr. I we’ve received thus far, it was so exciting to get a real unique perspective from someone who is not a conventional comic book artist. Yay, yay, hooray!

So, with the artist’s permission, I will be posting a Dr. Inferno sketch on Skateboard Heroes in an hour or so. Rush over and check it out. And if you have watched the trailer or downloaded Chapter one (all three parts) you’d better get on that too.

Rock on my sk8’n peeps!

GPS Tooth

That sounds pretty good, right – a gps tooth? I mean, way cooler than a car gps, don’t you think. It’s just one of the many tasty treats coming your way in future installments of Skateboard Heroes. If you haven’t checked the coolest new comic about kids and boards and skating and claw-toting bad guys, you really should cruise on over to the site. The trailer was unrestrained coolness. The first chapter (released in three parts) was nothing less than sublime. And guess what…chapter two is on its way!!

All the news that’s fit to print…

Heh heh. Ever hear that expression? Pretty irrelevant these days, right? I mean, seriously. These days the morning news shows spend more time talking to the losers from the prior night’s prime time reality show (same network of course). Voted off the island on Tuesday night? You’re having coffee with Matt on Wednesday morning.

It’s kind of a drag. In spite of all the coverage, I’m still pretty sure there were a lot more eyes on Kate and William on any given day in the two weeks before the royal wedding than in the netire week on death of Osama coverage. Wackadoo we are.

I suppose, on the one hand, extensive coverage of the wedding is at least a little informative, particularly if you live in England. Discount bridesmaid dresses anyone?
